Mozilla Text
Mozilla Text is a sans-serif family with a broad range of weights and a single normal style. Its flexible construction makes it suitable for text-led design where clarity, hierarchy, and consistent rhythm matter. The available range can support both quiet reading environments and stronger emphasis, depending on size and weight.
Best suited for: Use Mozilla Text for websites, app interfaces, documentation, articles, navigation, and other layouts that rely on readable text. Lighter weights can support calm supporting copy, while regular and medium weights fit everyday content. Heavier settings can help headings, labels, buttons, and short calls to action stand apart.
Design considerations: The six weights, from 200 through 700, allow gradual shifts in emphasis rather than abrupt changes between text levels. Keep the lightest weights at comfortable sizes and use darker weights selectively in dense layouts. Because only the normal style is supplied, create contrast through size, spacing, weight, and layout instead of italics.
Pairing guidance: For a restrained system, pair Mozilla Text with a serif that has clear proportions and a calm reading texture. A display face with more distinctive shapes can also provide contrast for prominent headings, provided its details do not compete with the sans-serif text. For interface work, a complementary sans-serif may be unnecessary; spacing and weight can establish the hierarchy.
